Bivak

BIVAK (Bivouac), a place for rest, repose, shelter… Under the open sky… A refuge for many who, at first glance, might seem different from us…

Bivouac (French: bivouac) – a camp under the open sky, an encampment, a shelter.

Bivak is a street performance inspired by the lives of people on “the other side” of society’s path — those on the other side of the fence, embodied in Beckettian characters who collect scrap metal.

In Bivak, we treat the street as a space that occupies the lowest level in the hierarchy of (performance) spaces. Conversely, it is also the most open and democratic place — accessible to all social groups and anyone who happens to be there (and we all find ourselves there, sooner or later). Regardless of the traits that usually set people apart, everyone is welcome. What they all have in common, and what connects them, is the very space they occupy and the moment they share within it. This unique, unrepeatable moment spent together in the same place makes them similar — citizens of the world in a deeper, metaphorical sense. It allows them to truly be Together, even if they are strangers.
