Forget About Dulcinea

One eccentric Maestra. One seminal work that will change the world. But two Juliets and zero Romeos. A small theater, an even smaller town.

PRODUCTION: TRIKO / CIRK POZOR / CANTA

In Forget About Dulcinea (Zaboravi na Dulcineu), we allow the fluid figure of the theatrical clown to step into the hardbound editions of canonical literature. Brought into this relationship, both the clown and the classic recognize what binds them: immortality as a mode of existence (for it is well known — neither the clown nor the classic is ever truly reached by the finality of death) and a shared subject of interest: that which is essentially human. The deconstruction of classic texts — from Shakespeare to Šenoa — is primarily inspired by ludus (play); the clown plays with the text like building blocks, taking them apart and reassembling them just as a child does: innocently and with no thought other than the pure joy of the game.

Genre-wise, Forget Dulcinea remains unclassified — it chooses to be physical theatre, a musical, spoken drama, clown cabaret… and a little bit more, all at once.

One eccentric Maestra. One seminal work that will change the world. But two Juliets and zero Romeos. A small theater, an even smaller town. A delivery man appears at the door, With a pizza in his hands and amnesia in his eyes, And the artists are struck by an idea of how to make him the missing link: The longed-for Romeo.

A fierce battle of identities begins, Seasoned with song, dance, and quotes from the classics, In which it becomes difficult to distinguish: Who is Romeo, and who is Don Quixote? Who is Juliet, and who is Dulcinea? And so on, ever closer…
